So your poor kitchen is feeling a little (or more than just a little!) tired and old. You don’t quite have the budget to do a full renovation, so you are looking for some simple and effective options to breathe new life into your home and give yourself a more modern kitchen.
Well, we have a few tips that may just help!

Tip 1. Turn to stone!

A simple way to freshen up your room is to look at replacing your existing benchtops. Your benchtop is the workhorse of the kitchen – used daily, relentlessly, and for endless reasons – it’s no wonder your poor underappreciated bench is screaming out for some TLC. We recommend you look at upgrading your bench to an engineered stone, especially if you currently have an old and dated laminate benchtop that’s dying to be freshened up! Making the switch to stone is actually remarkably easy and cost effective (generally in the vicinity of a couple of thousand dollars – depending on the size of your kitchen of course!) but in terms of the added value and the overall impact this cosmetic upgrade will make to the look and feel of your home, it’s well worth it.

Tip 2. Be inspired by handle choices

Updating your handles to something fresh and modern is a sure-fire way to instantly refresh the look of your cabinetry. If you currently have those round plastic knobbly handles on every cupboard door – you know the ones! – then you should absolutely consider replacing them with something a little more modern and on trend. The transformation a simple handle can make to your space should not be underestimated, they have the power to change the aesthetic of your whole kitchen for very little effort.

Tip 3. Statement Splashbacks

Its not uncommon for an older style kitchen to have a tiled splashback that has seen years (if not decades) of oil and pasta sauce splashes, and let’s be honest, there is only so much a good clean will do to revive it. If this sounds like the current splashback situation in your home, then this is a change that will uplift your kitchen in no time. A new feature tile or even re-grouting the existing tiles will do wonders for the space, but if you really want to make a visual impact another option is to do away with the tiles completely and go for a glass splashback. The beauty of a glass splashback is that you can essentially have any colour you want, meaning the possibilities are endless! You can pick a tone that beautifully complements your existing styling, or really make it a statement piece by choosing something bold and bright, even a luxe mirrored splashback.

Tip 4. Switch up your style!

When you really think about it, when was the last time you changed the styling in your kitchen? The same utensil holder and fruit bowl that have been your go-to for years may be the things holding your space back when it comes to having a modern and fresh look. Maybe it’s time to retire some of your pieces and have some fun shopping for that stunning new artwork, or statement vase to fill with fresh flowers that will inject new life into your kitchen.

As you can see, giving your kitchen a modern style design makeover doesn’t need to cost the earth or take months of planning. Armed with a couple of solid ideas and the right approach, you will be on your way to having a revived space that was much easier to achieve than you first thought possible!
