DESIGNING A FAMILY FRIENDLY KITCHEN
The kitchen in the family home is so often the centre of all activity. The family hub that brings the tribe together to share meals and memories; but also the workhorse of the house that helps organise day to day life.
With the majority of us living busy lives we are seeing more and more people designing family friendly kitchens that big and little people can enjoy.
We recently completed a new kitchen for Webb and Brown-Neaves where family friendly design was the key objective. In this article we discuss the design of ‘The Nest’ kitchen as well as some inclusive design trends you can consider for your new kitchen.
Island Focal Point
Large kitchen islands or split level designs with extra seated sections are a very popular kitchen design trend right now. It allows a great space for casual meals and even an area for young kids to draw or play whilst parents are cooking.
Islands can also very easily become a multipurpose design feature in your home that incorporates accessible storage for kids activities and even integrated appliances like your microwave or an extra drinks fridge.

Kitchen Tech Hub
A new design feature in kitchens these days. Tech hubs cement the kitchen’s position as the heart of the home. Knock off your to-do list while dinner bubbles away on the stove. Help the kids with their homework, pay bills, charge your phone, check recipes and reply to emails, without being pulled away from the social chatter of the evening.

Smart Storage
Storage is king for busy families. Integrated waste bins like the Hafele Euro Cargo make life so much easier. The Hafele Le Mans Corner Units helps maximise on cabinetry space and accessibility of items, and we always recommend lots of deep drawers for ample storage.
Wide cutlery drawers provide the perfect place to store kids paraphernalia. Including accessible cupboards and drawers into your kitchen design is always a great idea for your children to access their items independently

Servery Window
Health and happiness stem from feeling connected to the outdoors. Make entertaining fresh and easy with a kitchen servery window in your design that opens directly into the alfresco. Stay part of the conversation with family and friends.A servery window makes BBQ’s ,parties and food preparation easier from the kitchen to the alfresco.

Kitchen Technology
You will never regret investing in good quality technology and appliances for your kitchen. Sure – handleless touch catch doors to overhead cabinets are a luxury item – but they definitely make it easier when unloading the dishwasher!
Double oven stacks are perfect for cooking big family meals and integrated combi microwave ovens are perfect for good quality cooking or heating of smaller meals. Integrating your kitchen appliances into your overall design will always look better in your kitchen as it provides a cleaner more streamlined aesthetic.
