Mount Lawley
Mount Lawley is renowned for its heritage-rich charm, so when it came to renovating this kitchen, preserving the home’s character was just as important as improving its functionality.
Rather than altering the existing footprint, we reimagined how the space worked, introducing contemporary materials, integrated appliances and thoughtful storage solutions to better support modern family living – while still honouring the home’s original character and charm.
A Warm, Layered Material Palette
The cabinetry features Polytec Blossom White – a warm, creamy-white tone with soft, subtle grey-beige undertones. Finished in the Ascot profile, a modern take on the traditional shaker door, it introduces just enough heritage character through its clean internal lines and refined detailing, while still feeling contemporary.
To create contrast, Florentine Walnut has been used for the floating shelves, appliance cabinet and appliance nook. The rich timber tone adds visual depth and brings a natural warmth that carries throughout the kitchen.
Lux Stria Solid Brass handles in Gunmetal provide a refined industrial accent, pairing seamlessly with the soft white cabinetry and walnut detailing.
Stone Ambassador’s Perla Venata forms the benchtops, introducing a creamy base with soft, flowing veining that sits comfortably within the home’s heritage context. Chosen as an integral part of the material palette, its warm tones complement the walnut timber and gunmetal hardware, creating a cohesive, layered aesthetic.
Island Design
The island extends from the U-shaped kitchen to form a peninsula with an overhang for breakfast seating, opening the space toward the adjoining living area. This extension strengthens the connection between kitchen and living spaces, enhancing flow and supporting a more social, integrated way of everyday living. Additional storage has been incorporated into the rear of the island, ensuring every available space works harder without compromising the clean design.
Appliance Cabinet & Appliance Nook
Concealed behind bifold doors, the appliance cabinet keeps clutter neatly out of sight while still allowing easy access when needed. Finished in Florentine Walnut with integrated, dimmable LED lighting, it creates a calm, organised workspace that can simply be closed away to maintain a clean, streamlined look.
In contrast, the open appliance nook offers a more relaxed, accessible feature within the kitchen. Also detailed in Florentine Walnut and softly lit with LED lighting, it keeps everyday essentials close at hand while adding warmth, texture and a subtle sense of display within the joinery.
Cleverly Integrated Storage
Equipped with three slim Hafele pull-out systems, these solutions turn otherwise unused gaps in the cabinetry into highly functional storage.
Positioned close to the ovens, the tray pull-out features vertical slot dividers designed to neatly store baking trays for easy access while cooking. Beside the sink, the tea towel pull-out includes dual metal rails for hanging towels, with a lower tray for cleaning products, keeping everyday essentials within reach. Located adjacent to the cooktop, the two-tier organiser provides dedicated space for spices, condiments and oils, ensuring everything needed while cooking is close at hand.
Pantry Storage Solutions
The Häfele storage systems continue throughout the kitchen with highly functional, full-access pantry solutions. The tandem pull-out units operate like a “supermarket shelf,” with door-mounted shelving and rear storage that when opened glide forward together, ensuring full visibility and easy access to groceries from both sides.
Complementing this is the full-extension Dispensa tall pantry. Unlike standard cabinets with deep shelves, this cabinet door panel is mounted to a frame that allows you to pull the entire pantry out with a single pull. Designed for convenience and accessibility, it removes hard-to-reach storage and keeps everyday items neatly organised and within easy reach.
Appliances & Fixtures
The kitchen combines integrated appliances and considered fixtures to create a streamlined, highly functional space. Fully integrated refrigeration, dishwasher and Häfele Cargo bin solutions allow the cabinetry to remain the focus, while stacked Electrolux pyrolytic ovens and an induction cooktop provide a practical cooking zone.
At the sink, a Billi multifunction tap delivers instant boiling, chilled and sparkling water, paired with a Seima Oros double bowl undermount sink in white Arqstone for a refined and functional finish.
Splashback & Tiling
A retained splashback window sits within the cooking zone, introducing natural light into the workspace while softening the edge of the kitchen.
Framing either side of the window, kit-kat finger tiles add texture and subtle movement to the splashback design. Inspired by the character of handmade mosaics, the tiles feature an undulating surface and softly irregular edges, creating a tactile, crafted finish.
Their soft neutral palette combines white and grey tones with natural shade variation, while the gloss finish catches the light to enhance the depth and tonal shifts across each tile. The earthy detailing along the edges adds warmth and authenticity, complementing the natural materials and layered finishes throughout the kitchen.
Extending the Design Into the Living Room
The design continues beyond the kitchen into the adjoining living space, creating a cohesive flow throughout the home.
A custom TV joinery wall carries through the same material palette, with the television set into a Florentine Walnut feature wall and framed by cove-profile Steccawood battens. Below, cabinetry in Polytec Blossom White is paired with Gunmetal handles and topped with Perla Venata stone, maintaining continuity with the kitchen finishes.
Integrated LED lighting above the television and beneath the cabinetry adds depth and warmth, enhancing the overall sense of detail and atmosphere.
