TOP 5 KITCHEN DESIGN MYTHS

It’s easy to get overwhelmed by information when you’re undergoing kitchen renovations, with one source giving certain design advice and another telling you the exact opposite. As experts in new kitchen designs Perth, we’ve heard a lot of conflicting advice when it comes to what you should and shouldn’t do with your kitchen design and today we’ll be exploring some of the most common design myths.

Myth #1: You can’t mix styles

A lot of people seem to think that you have to pick one style and one style only for your kitchen. The reality is that different styles can be mixed together with great effect and this allows for flexibility when it comes to the final product. Traditional cabinets can be complimented by modern splashbacks and a classic island bench can be offset by metal bar stools – the choice is yours!

Myth #2: You have to pick a neutral palette

It’s true that a neutral palette continues to be a popular choice for kitchens, remember that the space is yours and you can inject some colour as you see fit. You want the kitchen to suit your style and personality and it can be very effective to add bold, striking colour. Also, the neutral palette doesn’t mean just white – you can also look at cream, grey, black or shades of blue and still maintain a neutral look.

Myth #3: You can’t mix materials

There’s no rule that says you can’t mix materials and, in fact, a range of different materials and textures in the kitchen can be very effective. Marble and stainless steel benchtops can be used very effectively in the same space and timber cabinetry or shelving can be used amongst painted cabinets. It’s just a case of getting the balance right.

Myth #4: You should choose form over function

While we agree that your kitchen should look amazing after you’ve finished your renovations, this isn’t the most important factor. You also need to make sure that functionality is a prime consideration. Do you have enough storage? Is the layout efficient? Do you have enough bench space? All of these practical issues need to be considered during the design process.

Myth #5: You don’t need a professional kitchen designer

Although it’s true that you can go ahead with your kitchen renovations without the input of a designer, using a professional can really elevate your kitchen into something truly special. Your designer will help you get the balance just right between aesthetic appeal and functionality and help you create your dream kitchen.
