Two toned look

In 2018, you’ll see a lot more of people mixing up colours for a two toned look where rich, striking colours are teamed with a neutral palette for a unique feel. Contrasting cabinets is becoming more commonplace and this will continue into 2018 with coloured cabinets coexisting happily alongside neutral neighbours. Think feature rich, rust coloured cabinets teamed with a neutral grey.

Vibrant colour options

Although the neutral kitchen will never lose its popularity, people are becoming more comfortable in using colour in the kitchen. 2018 will all be about rich, warm colour with different shades of browns, yellows and reds being incorporated into designs. Deep blue is also set to become a popular colour choice as a departure from the muted greens and blues of 2017.

Mixing materials

Kitchen designs in 2018 will be adding interest by combining a range of different materials for a true textural experience. The popularity of copper will carry over from 2017 and a mix of wood, concrete, glass, stone and metal will also make their way into the final design of many kitchens.  Have fun seeing what materials are available and incorporating them into your design.

Feature sinks

Even the sink will be able to become a feature in 2018 with the traditional stainless steel sink being cast aside for a durable trough or bucket sink. This style of sink has been commonplace for years in farmer style kitchens but will be making an appearance across a range of different kitchen designs.

Concrete accents

Expect to see concrete popping up more frequently in 2018 as a favourite feature material. As a compliment to the warm palette which is set to be so popular, concrete will be integrated into sinks, decorative accessories, benchtops and other kitchen features. Concrete accents won’t just be confined to the kitchen – you’ll probably see it pop up in other areas around the house.
