St James
Rich timber tones, dramatic natural stone, and warm metallic accents come together in this striking, contemporary space we created for our clients in St James. Designed to feel both luxurious and highly functional, this home balances bold contrasts with refined detailing across the kitchen, living area, and ensuite.

Kitchen
This kitchen makes a statement through contrast – pairing deep walnut cabinetry with dramatic black stone and a softly toned, off-white island bench. The result is a space that feel sophisticated and architectural, yet warm and grounded.
Cabinetry
Polytec’s Florentine Walnut cabinetry anchors the design with its deep chocolate brown tone and natural timber grain. Used throughout the kitchen, including the open shelving in the bar area and appliance cupboard, it creates a cohesive and warm palette.
Bevel-edge detailing keeps the look streamlined and minimal, while Kethy Timber Archive walnut handles on the tall cabinetry introduce a subtle curved detail, adding a modern, warm touch that complements the overall design.
Benchtops & Splashback
The island bench, sourced by the clients, is Pallazzo Dolomite – a light natural stone with soft grey veining and subtle brown and gold highlights. Inspired by the Italian coastline, it provides a lighter contrast to the deeper tones of the cabinetry.
The side benchtops and splashback, also sourced by the clients, are Nero Nabucco – a bold black quartzite, with natural white mineral detailing that adds depth and movement. This pairing of light and dark stone delivers a high impact, yet balanced, contemporary finish.
Rangehood Feature
The integrated wall-insert rangehood is framed by a brushed brass surround from Laminex, adding warmth and a subtle touch of luxury. Its metallic finish softly reflects light, balancing the darker tones of the kitchen and coordinating seamlessly with the tapware and overall materiality of the space.
Appliances & Functionality
Fully integrated appliances maintain the clean lines of the cabinetry, including a French door fridge, dishwasher, and built-in cooking appliances. A stacked microwave and oven combination provides practical everyday use, while the induction cooktop delivers a sleek, modern surface. A concealed appliance cupboard with sensor lighting provides additional storage, keeping everyday items neatly hidden away while maintaining the streamlined aesthetic. Next to the bar area, a Liebherr integrated dual wine cellar with a glass-front finish adds both luxury and functionality.
Finishing Touches
Brushed brass tapware creates a refined focal point at the island, paired with an undermount stainless steel sink that recedes from the eye.
Dimmable warm LED lighting over the bar area enhances both functionality and ambience, allowing the space to transition effortlessly from day to night.
Living Room
Extending seamlessly from the kitchen, the living area continues the same Florentine Walnut to create a cohesive, connected space.
Custom cabinetry, open shelving, and a matching benchtop in a Woodmatt finish brings warmth and texture, while the bevel-edge cabinetry keeps detailing minimal, allowing the natural beauty of the timber to take centre stage.
Ensuite and Walk-in Robe
The ensuite carries through the home’s material palette, combining warm Florentine Walnut timber with the soft, luxurious Palazzo Dolomite stone. An above-bench basin creates a sculptural focal point, complemented by rich, brushed copper tapware.
The walk-in robe continues the Florentine Walnut cabinetry in a Woodmatt finish, with tall cabinets featuring Kethy Timber Archive handles in walnut. LED strip lighting with door sensor switches in warm white adds practical, subtle illumination.
Clean lines, minimal detailing, and a consistent material selection result in a space that feels cohesive and considered.
