Darlington
This kitchen brings together soft green tones, walnut timber, and creamy stone surfaces to create a layered, textural design that feels both timeless and deeply connected to the character of the home. Nestled within a charming Perth Hills residence, the space balances warmth and functionality for family living, while subtle mid-century influences emerge through its curved forms, rich timber detailing, and tactile finishes. A feature tiled rangehood introduces sculptural detail, while considered storage and practical zoning ensure the kitchen functions effortlessly as the heart of the home.
Cabinetry Palette
The cabinetry is defined by a balanced palette of earthy greens, rich walnut and warm neutrals. Polytec Topiary introduces a solid mid-tone yellow-based green the lower cabinetry, bringing a natural, grounded feel to the space. This is paired with Polytec Gossamer White in Sussex profile for the tall cabinetry – a soft, slightly greyed warm white in a clean, minimally detailed profile with a subtle bevelled edge, keeping the overall composition light and understated.
Polytec Florentine Walnut is used for the open shelving and internal cabinetry detailing, introducing a deep chocolate timber tone that adds warmth and depth, with a clear nod to the mid-century influence.
Stone Benchtop & Island Design
At the heart of the kitchen, Caesarstone Cloudburst Concrete anchors the space with a soft, creamy base and delicate stone movement. The island bench features a curved benchtop edge on one corner, paired with a waterfall edge on the opposing side, creating subtle variation and visual interest.
Echoing the open shelving, the island base is finished in Polytec Florentine Walnut. The Bari profile introduces vertical fluting, adding texture, depth, and a refined mid-century character. Additional storage on the rear of the island ensures no space is wasted, supporting the practical needs of family living while maintaining a refined balance of form and function.
Feature Rangehood and Splashback
The curved feature rangehood is fully wrapped in vertical mosaic-style textured kit-kat tiles, which continue through to the splashback below, creating a cohesive sculptural moment within the kitchen. The warm off-white finish adds softness, while the structured surface introduces subtle rhythm, depth, and shadow play – establishing the feature as a true focal point within the space.
Externally constructed and tiled by the clients, it was important that the feature integrated seamlessly into the overall design, with the surrounding materials and finishes carefully selected to create a cohesive aesthetic.
Hardware & Tapware
The hardware and tapware introduce a warm metallic layer throughout the kitchen.
The Hepburn Hardware Bronte handle in Oil Rubbed Bronze features clean lines and a warm, heritage-inspired finish that complements the walnut tones throughout the kitchen.
On the island bench, the Oliveri Spectra undermount sink in Gunmetal adds a dark, refined metallic contrast, paired with the Yabby Melbourne Dual Mixer in Antique Brass, introducing a warm, aged tone with a functional gooseneck design.
Appliances & Storage Solutions
Functionality is seamlessly integrated, with a fully built-in dishwasher and considered internal storage solutions enhancing everyday usability.
Hafele joinery fittings are used throughout to maximise space and improve access. The Dispensa Junior III pull-out system features two levels of storage for easy access to spices, oils, and pantry items, while the LeMans corner unit utilises swing-out trays to make full use of otherwise wasted corner space.
The Euro Cargo bin system provides a double pull-out waste solution with an integrated internal drawer above for additional organisation.
A concealed appliance cabinet with bifold doors in Florentine Walnut keeps smaller appliances neatly out of sight, maintaining a clean, uncluttered finish. Integrated LED strip lighting activates on opening, providing soft internal illumination for ease of use. This lighting is continued under the open shelving, adding a warm ambient glow across the kitchen, with dimmable control via remote for adjustable mood and functionality.
Mudroom
Flowing seamlessly from the kitchen, the mudroom continues the same materials for cohesion and function. Polytec Topiary cabinetry anchors the space, paired with Florentine Walnut benchtops, open shelving, and floating shelves that introduce warmth and texture.
Designed with family living in mind, the space creates a practical everyday drop zone, helping to keep the adjoining kitchen and living areas organised and clutter-free. A built-in bench seat adds functionality and comfort, while open cubbies below provide accessible storage. Wall-mounted hooks provide everyday functionality for bags and outerwear, while cupboards add additional storage, completing a considered extension of the home’s functional zones.
