Myaree

The Mid-Century vibes are strong in this striking little retro renovation we completed for our clients in Myaree. The brief was to design a modern Mid-Century style kitchen to tie in with their 1960’s family home. A kitchen design that complimented existing features such as the original Jarrah flooring; and that maximised on space and kitchen storage in a smaller kitchen footprint.

Mid-Century modern design refers to design trend that originated in the mid-20th century; roughly spanning from the 1940’s to the late 1960’s. It’s a style that has captured the hearts of design enthusiasts for decades. It’s characterised by clean lines, organic shapes, an earthy colour scheme and mixed materials. To understand this kitchen style better visit our kitchen styles section on our website that explains Mid-Century in more detail.

Mid-Century Design Elements

Polytec Florentine Walnut and Silk Legato cabinetry feature in this kitchen design. Warm wood tones such as walnut are key design characteristic of the Mid-Century style. Polytec Bari profile cabinetry in Florentine Walnut is used on the front of the kitchen peninsula which introduces a tactile element to this design that also echoes the Mid-Century era.

Retro style wooden handles were selected to tie in with the mid-century aesthetic. The elegant jewel-toned green kitkat tiles add a brilliant pop of colour. The walnut colours throughout this design coordinate beautifully with the home’s existing Jarrah hardwood floors.

The client’s brief was to ensure that a practical and functional kitchen design was created to maximise the small space. Storage solutions such as drawers which offer a more practical solution were utilised as well as drawers in the pantry to find ingredients easily.

Inside the kitchen cabinetry more innovative storage solutions were included such as the Hafele Le Mans Corner Unit and the Dispensa Junior III next to the freestanding oven for functional storage of items such as cooking oils and spices. To maximise every inch of this kitchen design even a secret storage cupboard was included on the back of the peninsula island.
